Putting Right The Absurdities Of Facebook and Twitter
Here's a strange feature of the web, and it is caused by star platforms like Twitter and our willing enrolment in unusual behaviour. I'm going to call it the beanbag economy. People chase their tails creating content so they can gain a reputation on Twitter and Facebook - when in real life their reputation might be only marginally connected to the web or to content.

Red Hat's Formula for an Open Cloud
Open Cloud Visionaries is a series of articles about how IT can navigate the transition to expanded use of cloud resources in a way that meets business requirements, avoids restrictive lock in, and expands choice. In the third article in this series we interviewed Scott Crenshaw, vice president and general manager of the cloud business unit at Red Hat. For an explanation of the context and rationale and a list of other articles, please see: ?The Case for Building an Open Cloud? at www.CITOResearch.com.

Huddle Wows Diageo, UK Government
Diageo (DEO), the London-based "drinks" leader, is a fan of Huddle -- an online tool that makes global teamwork easier. Its chief technology officer exclaimed after using Huddle: "This is such a great tool that we should all be in it."
That's what Huddle CEO Alastair Mitchell explained to me in a February 17th interview. With people working on projects these days that involve teams of people scattered across the world -- some inside your company and others working with customers and partners, the need for a way to work together online via different devices is greater than ever.
Diageo -- its brands include Johnnie Walker and Smirnoff -- worked with an advertising agency (and Huddle customer), AKQA, to develop an advertising campaign for its Smirnoff brand. Developing the ads involved a huge group of people -- about 750 -- from both companies. And Huddle boosted the team's productivity by letting participants share their work across devices and countries.

Thailand Taps China For Cut-Price 'One Tablet Per Child' Program
As Apple fends off a feisty claimant to its iPad trademark in China, Chinese tech manufacturers are doing battle in Thailand. Several are competing to supply as many as 860,000 cut-price tablets to Thai schoolchildren under a government-to-government program. None will getting iPads, not at less than $100 a pop. Still, the Thai government wants to get bang for its buck by fielding bids from the likes of Huawei, ZTE and Lenovo. China's government is assisting with procurement, though the 1.9 billion baht ($62 million) budget is coming from Thailand. The winning tablet must feature a seven-inch touch screen, 512 RAM, 8GB of memory and built-in 3G. The program stems from a campaign pledge last year by Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to provide 'One Tablet Per Child' as a way to revolutionise grade-school learning. The government has promised to start delivering the first batch to schools in March.
